About Rovers & Rangers

The roots of the Rovers and Rangers movement can be traced to the global Scouting movement founded by Lieutenant General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden Powell, widely known as Founder of Scouting. Baden Powell envisioned a movement that would help young people develop physically, mentally, socially and spiritually strong through experiences, outdoor activities and community service.

Scouting was introduced in India in 1909. Following India’s independence, efforts were made to unite various Scout and Guide organizations operating throughout the country. Under the guidance and support of national leaders such as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and Mangal Das Pakvasa, a unified organization was formed. On 7 November 1950, the Bharat Scouts and Guides came into existence through the merger of major Scout associations. Subsequently, on 15 August 1951, the All-India Girl Guides Association joined the organization, creating a single national body for Scouting and Guiding in India. Today, The Bharat Scouts and Guides stands as one of the largest youth organizations in the country, actively contributing to nation-building, social development, environmental conservation, and community welfare.

Achievements of Rovers & Rangers Unit

The following timeline presents the major activities and achievements of the Rovers and Rangers Unit from 2017 to 2026.

(a) 2017

● Hosted a workshop on “Diversity in Indian Markets and Its Challenges”, attended by delegates from Korea, fostering international interaction and cultural exchange.

● Achieved notable success in Samagam 2017 — Rangers secured First Position and Rovers secured Second Position.

(b) 2018

● Participated in the National Youth Forum, a five-day national camp held at Jagatpura, Jaipur; out of seven participants selected from Uttar Pradesh, three represented St. John’s College.

● Ms. Mahek Yadav was appointed Vice Chairperson of the Recommendation Committee.

● Mr. Aman Yadav was selected as the Leader of the Northern Region.

● Initiated the “Main Bhi Fauji” Campaign, encouraging citizens to support indigenous products and contribute to strengthening the national economy through the “Made in India” movement.

The year 2024 marked significant achievements for the Rovers and Rangers Unit through active participation in state-level competitions, community service initiatives, and leadership programmes.

(1) Pradeshik Rovers and Rangers Samagam 2024, Baghpat (11–13 March 2024)

The Unit represented St. John’s College at the Pradeshik Rovers and Rangers Samagam and secured several accolades.

(1) Climate and Environmental Leadership

● Participated in the Youth-Led Action on Climate Change (YLACC) programme in New Delhi.

● Represented the institution at the BIMSTEC Climate Change Seminar, New Delhi, contributing to discussions on sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

(2) State-Level Achievement

At the Bharat Scouts and Guides State Samagam, Prayagraj, the Unit achieved the following leaving behind 19 universities in the state.

● Cash Prize of ₹ 10,000 won by Rover Krishna from St.John’s College, Agra for securing 1^st position in the State in BSG Gyan Pratiyogita

(3) Sports Achievement

● Emerged as Winners(Rovers) of the Spark-175 Cricket Championship held in March 2025.

(e) 2026

The year 2026 witnessed enhanced national and international exposure for the Unit, reflecting its growing recognition and leadership within the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement.

(1) International and National Participation

● Participated in the BIMSTEC Cultural Immersion Programme, promoting intercultural understanding and regional cooperation.

● Represented the College at the First National Rover Ranger Jamboree, Chhattisgarh, interacting with participants from across the country and showcasing scouting excellence. Rover Ankur and Ranger Anushka from St.John’s College Agra stood 3^rd in the BSG Gyan Pratiyogita beating 21 States.

(2) National Leadership Representation

A landmark achievement for the Unit was the nomination of Ranger Priyanshi Singh to participate in the National Youth Committee Meeting organized by Bharat Scouts and Guides at the National Headquarters, New Delhi, on 8 March 2026. This prestigious nomination recognized:

● Leadership and organizational abilities at the national level.

● Active involvement in youth representation and policy dialogue.

● Contributions toward strengthening scouting and guiding initiatives.
