About the department

The Department of bachelors of physical education & sports (B.P.E.S) was established in 2023 with under-graduate classes. 

The entire teaching faculty is well qualified having Ph.D. and experience in teaching and research. All the teachers have written text books/monographs/research papers published by reputed publishers.

Central to its mission, the department prioritizes instilling not only subject knowledge but also moral and ethical values in its students. It actively supports both current students and alumni in their pursuit of career opportunities, maintaining social media groups to facilitate jobs and placement information dissemination

Vision:

To be recognized as a centre of excellence in Physical Education by nurturing and empowering individuals with physical fitness, sportsmanship, leadership, and holistic development to contribute positively towards society and the well-being of humanity.

Mission:

To equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in Physical Education by bridging the gap between theoretical understanding and modern sports and fitness practices. Also, to cultivate discipline, teamwork, leadership qualities, and a spirit of sportsmanship in every student through a curriculum that responds to the evolving needs of health, fitness, and physical well-being.

As per the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), the Department of Physical Education offers the following programme under the CBCS system:

Undergraduate: Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES)

Teaching and Evaluation

The Department has earned a reputation for meaningful and intensive teaching in the field of Physical Education and Sports. The students are continuously evaluated through practical performances, fitness tests, class tests, assignments, seminars, participation in sports activities, and field work. The Department is equipped with sports infrastructure, fitness equipment, and smart classroom facilities to enrich the teaching-learning process.

Most of the teaching is carried out through regular lectures, practical demonstrations, field training, smart classes, and audio-visual aids. The faculty members also use workshops, sports competitions, yoga sessions, health awareness programmes, and outdoor activities to supplement the theoretical knowledge of the subject.

Educationally disadvantaged students are guided individually through counselling, mentoring, and personalized support, while advanced learners are encouraged to excel through leadership activities, sports training programmes, projects, and seminars.

The Department has a students’ association that encourages active participation in sports events, fitness campaigns, quiz contests, debates, cultural programmes, and other co-curricular activities. Students are also encouraged to provide feedback formally and informally, and their valuable suggestions are duly considered for the improvement of the Department.

The Department maintains a collection of sports-related books, journals, and teaching-learning resources to support academic and practical training activities

Achievements of the department (since its existence)

  • All India University Arm Wrestling Competition: Pratika won a bronze medal and Saurav Kuntal also bagged a bronze medal in the All-India University Arm Wrestling Competition. Their achievement brought pride and recognition to the institution.
