About the department
History
The Department of Sanskrit is one of the oldest and most prestigious departments of St. John’s College, established during the early years of the institution in the 19th century. Since its inception, it has been dedicated to preserving and promoting the richness of Sanskrit language, literature, and Indian cultural heritage.
Over the decades, the department has produced scholars, teachers, researchers, and administrators who have contributed significantly to academics and society. The department has consistently upgraded its curriculum in line with modern pedagogical approaches while maintaining the classical depth of the subject.
