About the department
The Department of B.Com. Vocational Principles and Practices of Insurance was established in 2005 under the guidance of Dr. Arjun Das, Dr. C.M. Jain, Dr. P. A. Joy and Dr. Sanjeev Sharma with the objective of providing quality education in the fields of insurance, finance, banking, and risk management. The department focuses on developing professional knowledge and practical understanding among students to prepare them for careers in the insurance, banking and financial sector.
The programme provides students with knowledge of banking operations, insurance services, financial systems, and current developments in finance. Along with classroom teaching, emphasis is given to practical learning through seminars, workshops, industrial visits, case studies, and interaction with professionals from the banking, finance and insurance industry. The department also encourages students to participate in academic and co-curricular activities that help in improving communication skills, analytical ability, and professional confidence. With experienced faculty members and a practical approach to learning, the department continues to prepare students for opportunities in banking, insurance, financial services, and related sectors.

- Banking Sector:Â Opportunities in public and private sector banks as banking associates, clerks, customer service executives, and relationship officers.
- Insurance Sector: Careers in life and general insurance companies in areas such as underwriting, claims management, policy administration, and insurance advisory services.
- Finance Sector: Employment opportunities in financial institutions, NBFCs, investment firms, stock market services, mutual fund companies, loan and credit agencies, and financial consultancy organizations. Students may also pursue careers as financial advisors, credit analysts, tax consultants, and financial service executives.
- Accounting and Taxation:Â Employment opportunities in accounting firms, auditing organizations, taxation consultancy, and administrative departments.
- Higher Education and Competitive Examinations: Preparation for postgraduate programmes and professional courses along with guidance for competitive examinations including IBPS, SBI, RBI, LIC, and other banking and insurance-related examinations.
- Entrepreneurship and Professional Services: Encouragement and guidance for entrepreneurship in insurance advisory services, business consultancy, and related service sectors.
(d) Eligibility and Course Structure:
- Duration: 3 years, divided into 6 semesters.
- Eligibility: Completion of 10+2 in any stream from a recognized board.
- Fee Payment: Annual Payment (Payment of 2 semesters every year)
