A Brief History of the Department
The Department of Business Administration under the Faculty of Commerce at St. John’s College has a distinguished legacy in commerce and management education. The department was established to impart specialised education in business administration and organisational studies in response to the growing need for professional management education.
In 1980, the Faculty of Commerce was reorganised in accordance with the directives of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, formerly known as Agra University, and was trifurcated into three distinct academic departments: the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Accounts and Law, and the Department of Applied Business Economics.
Following this reorganisation, the Department of Business Administration emerged as an independent academic entity devoted to the advancement of management education. Dr. M. R. James served as the inaugural Head of the Department and laid its academic and administrative foundations.
Over the years, the department has evolved into a respected centre of higher learning, promoting academic excellence, managerial competence, research orientation, professional ethics, and student-centred learning. The department has also made a noteworthy contribution to research and higher studies and has successfully produced nearly thirty research scholars in commerce, management, and allied disciplines.
